Exercise 4 : Reading Passage

Reading Passage – Exercise 4

Robotics in Education

In recent years, robotics has moved beyond factories and research labs and entered the classroom. Educators are increasingly using robots to teach problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork. Unlike traditional subjects that focus mainly on memorization, robotics combines science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) into practical projects. For example, students might design a robot to follow a line on the floor or program one to sort objects by color. These hands-on experiences allow learners to understand abstract concepts in a concrete way.

One of the major benefits of robotics education is its ability to engage students who might otherwise feel disconnected from traditional learning methods. Building and programming robots requires patience, trial and error, and logical thinking. Students are encouraged to test ideas, make mistakes, and try again, which helps them develop resilience and critical thinking skills.

Moreover, robotics supports collaboration. In many classrooms, students work in teams to design, code, and troubleshoot their robots. This not only enhances their technical abilities but also improves communication and teamwork — skills that are essential in the 21st-century workplace.

Another important aspect is inclusivity. Robotics can inspire both boys and girls to pursue STEM careers, challenging old stereotypes that technology is only for certain groups. Studies have shown that early exposure to robotics can increase confidence and motivation, especially for underrepresented students in science and technology fields.

Finally, robotics education prepares students for the future. As industries continue to rely on automation and artificial intelligence, students who gain experience with robotics are more likely to adapt to technological change. Instead of fearing automation, they can become innovators who create new solutions for society.
